Fried Cheese

Fried Cheese

A kaassoufflé is thought to be influenced by Indonesian street food called gorengan (fritter). It is either bought ready-made frozen and deep-fried at home, or ordered at snackbars in the Netherlands, where it is one of the few vegetarian fast-food snacks available.

But why buy it when you can make them yourself? Super fast, super easy!

Ingredients

  • 10 puff pastry sheets, 12x12cm approx.
  • Cheese of your choice, we use Gouda
  • Breadcrumbs
  • 2 eggs

Cut 3 thin strips of cheese or cut 1 piece of 8x4x0.5 cm and put it on the puff pastry. Brush the edges with whisked egg.

Fold the pastry dough and close the seems with the back of a knife. To be 100% there will be no cheese leaking into your fryer, fold in the edges like shown.

Cover the dough in egg and cover it in breading.

Now you can choose to freeze the “kaassouflés” for some midnight snacking or fry them immediately.

Heat your frying oil to 180°C and bake the kaassouflé until golden. Defrosted these will take about 2 minutes, frozen will take about 3 minutes.

See? Super fast and super easy!

Happy Fry-Day!
